A Station Goes Dark

All Dixie Rock was born from the loss of something that mattered.

In 2011, one of the Internet’s most respected Southern Rock radio stations was forced off the air after its owner was threatened by music licensing agencies and left with no choice but to shut it down. For the Southern Rock community — artists, fans and dedicated listeners who had made it part of their daily lives — the silence was real.

Out of that silence came a decision: Southern Rock deserved better than a void.

Built From Scratch in Three Weeks

Rather than let the music disappear, the work began immediately to build a new station from the ground up. There was no prior experience in Internet broadcasting, no established playbook and no shortcut. Just determination and a deep love for the music.

What followed was three weeks of simultaneous problem-solving — researching how to build and launch an Internet radio stream, executing that build, and securing a licensing agency to ensure everything operated legally and the artists got paid.

Three weeks later, AllDixieRock.com was on the air.

Finding the Music

Getting the stream live was only part of the challenge. The most critical piece still had to be solved: building the musical foundation that would define the station’s sound.

The search led to the Wayback Machine, where archived pages from the station that had gone dark revealed a list of artists once featured there. That list became the roadmap.

From there the journey moved through iTunes, Amazon Music and other sources — tracking down the recordings that would give All Dixie Rock its backbone. Those artists, the legends who built Southern Rock and the independents who kept it alive, became the foundation of the station’s sound.

Personal favorites were added alongside them — giving All Dixie Rock not just continuity with what had come before, but a voice and personality of its own.

The signal was live. The songs were found. All Dixie Rock was ready.

The Mission

What began as an effort to fill a void became something larger — a fully licensed, commercial-free Southern Rock radio station dedicated to keeping the music alive for listeners everywhere.

All Dixie Rock launched on July 5, 2011 and has been broadcasting continuously ever since. It is the Internet’s longest-running Southern Rock radio station — not by accident, but by commitment. Licensed with Live365, ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SoundExchange and SOCAN, the station operates with full respect for the artists whose music it plays and the rights organizations that protect them.

This has never been a corporate operation. It has always been a labor of love.

What no one predicted in 2011 was how far the signal would travel.

All Dixie Rock now reaches listeners in over 80 countries every month. Germany is the station’s single largest market. Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Kenya, Brazil — Southern Rock has crossed every border it was never supposed to cross. The music that grew from the red clay of Georgia and the swamps of Florida now streams into living rooms, garages, workshops and headphones on six continents.
